In the area of the village of Verkhnemarkovo, an accident recently occurred in which an oil tanker sank. Сause of occurrence this incident is unknown. However, it turned out that one and a half thousand tons of oil remained in the Lena river. It is known that a third of the oil discharged was collected, and another 1/3 is concentrated at the scene of the accident. The last third went with the flow.
It is hoped that oil will be brought ashore before it will be near villages and cities. It was decided to blow up the tanker itself so as not to cause trouble. The elimination of the consequences themselves has been completed; specialists have maximally cleaned the river of oil pollution.
In general, spills qualify for 3 levels. The first is small (up to five hundred tons). By law, if a company has caused damage to the environment, and it has an emergency, then it must eliminate the consequences on its own. If the oil is more than five hundred tons, then the company representative must inform the special services about what happened. And the leak itself is surrounded by booms. At the moment, the commission is going to a case on the accident in Lena to make a further decision on the actions of the Ministry of Emergencies and other services.
Which company is the owner of the tanker, who will be responsible for the deed, pay damages and deal with the consequences is now unknown. But we can say for sure that an answer will be found to these questions when the Ministry of Emergencies inspects the area. This accident can be called one of the largest in recent years.
